Why does my disposable taste burnt?

That taste is a dry hit: the coil fired while its wick was not fully saturated, so instead of vaporizing liquid, it charred the cotton. Three things cause it: puffing faster than the wick can re-soak, a tank that is actually running empty, or a coil that has already burned once and is permanently scorched.

The mechanism is a race between heat and capillary action. Every puff vaporizes the liquid held in the wick; the surrounding cotton then needs a few seconds to draw fresh liquid back into the coil. Chain vaping, five or six puffs back to back, outruns that re-soak, and the sixth puff hits half-dry cotton. The fix costs nothing: space your puffs 15 to 30 seconds apart and the flavor comes back.

If spacing puffs does not fix it, the device is likely near the end of its liquid even if the battery still fires, and on rechargeable models this is the classic end state, since the battery can be topped up forever but the liquid cannot. A burnt taste at full charge with thin vapor is the tank telling you it is done.

One caution: cotton that has truly charred does not recover. If a fresh device tastes burnt out of the box, that is a defect, not a technique problem; bring it back with the receipt instead of powering through it. And a persistently harsh, off-flavor device with no code-verified packaging may not be a real one at all, which is its own reason to buy from a counter that stands behind the wall it sells.
