Stainless is the one you forget about; it takes heat and handling indefinitely. Glass sits flatter in the bowl and keeps the path all-glass if that matters to you. Both are $0.99, so the answer is usually one of each.
What does an ash catcher do?
It intercepts ash and resin before they reach the main chamber, so the big piece stays clean far longer. It fits the joint like a bowl does; match sizes the same way.
How do I size a replacement downstem?
Length and joint size both matter; bring the old one or measure from the joint to where it sat. The counter keeps the common sizes and can order odd ones.
Do I need ID?
